Description

Just a simple visual update here, I've been tweaking these older ship models as well so i thought it would be nice to show the newest designs. Haven't done anything too crazy like completely modifying their looks, most of what I've done was just to make them appear to be better equipped and "heavier", as they are both heavy variants meant for direct combat.

UES Huntress-class heavy cruiser specs:

Introduced: 2292

Length: 1,165 meters
Width: 380 meters
Weaponry: Tier 2 Shock cannon (2), Tier 1 Shock cannon (2), HP 205-M12 Railgun Defense Turrets (28), TRS 89 Ship to Ship missile batteries (22), MK 17D Point defense laser batteries (30), WMD silos (3, one vacuum enhanced fusion missile, one matter/antimatter missile, one EMP missile)
Armor: Medium vinculum armor plating
Crew Complement: 300-700
Roles: Ship to ship combat, light capital ship, heavy escort, planetary defense

One of the few UESDC ship types designed specifically for combat as its primary role, the Huntress-class heavy cruiser is a solid choice for when a fleet needs to obliterate their enemy quick and efficiently. In the military, heavy cruisers are known as the single most powerful non-capital type ships fielded by the UES, being just 170 meters shorter than the Avignon-class battlecruisers. Heavy cruisers are built from the ground up to be dedicated combat vessels and excel greatly at this role, being able to withstand massive amounts of damage as well as give it back in return. Fielding an intimidating dual tier 2 shock cannon system in addition to dual backup tier 1 cannons  the huntress-class can lay down tremendous amounts of fire. In the UES Navy, huntress ships are frequently used in initial fleet offensive charges, holding the frontlines with heavy frigates, battlecruisers and destroyers. Huntress-class ships have a reputation as being significantly harder to cripple or destroy than ever expected, which the ship owes to its complex hull design, its multiple sections being made from layers of crisscrossing support structures and armor plating stacked several sheets thick. Although this added weight makes the cruiser slower and requires it to mount extra thrusters, the gain of its immense durability is widely agreed to overshadow the cons. In the modern UESDC, these ships fill many roles in fleets. Heavy assault fleets can be seen with dozens of these ships, while light assault fleets and carrier groups have made it fairly common to use Huntress ships as their flagships or heaviest source of offensive capability.

    * The Huntress-class gained even more notoriety during the Exohumans' surprise assault on Earth, specifically the heavy cruiser CDV Spirit of Eridani. With its accompanying battlegroup destroyed and finding herself outnumbered by 3 Exohuman frigates, the Eridani baited the enemy ships away from the orbiting Ulysses Station, intending to go down fighting. While taking 3 direct hits from the enemy ships and losing the remainder of its right wing structure, the Eridani managed to unload its entire remaining missile armament which destroyed one frigate and crippled another. The Eridani then fired its only 2 remaining functional cannons at the damaged frigate, putting it out of action. With its missiles exhuasted and cannons recharging, the Eridani charged forward and rammed the 3rd Exohuman frigate, breaking half of its left wing off. Now heavily damaged, the frigate still attempted to attack but the Eridani executed a complicated maneuver and turned its engines towards the frigate. Firing its rear thrusters on maximum power and counteracting with its frontal ones, the Eridani melted the smaller enemy ship to the point of breaking apart with its full burn engine exhaust. Amazingly, the Eridani survived the brutal assault on Earth and was relieved from service temporarily for repairs when reinforcements arrived the next day. Returning to Earth 3 weeks later to continue the fight, the story of the Eridani's valiant fight was one of very few success stories from the day that would come to be known as "Ragnarok". Chief Admiral Talia Goshal, commander of the Eridani, would receive highest honors for her actions and would continue to command the Eridani for the UES Navy. She would also deny a promotion to full Arch Admiral in order to remain in command of her battle tested ship and with her crew.

UES Prometheus-class heavy frigate specs:

Introduced: 2286

Length: 537 meters
Width: 183 meters
Weaponry: Tier 1 Shock cannon (1), HP 205-M12 Railgun Defense Turrets (16), TRS 89 Ship to Ship missile batteries (15), MK 17D Point defense laser batteries (20), WMD silos (3, two vacuum enhanced fusion missiles, one matter/antimatter missile)
Armor: Light vinculum armor plating
Crew Complement: 100-450
Roles: Capital ship escort, ship to ship combat, fleet defense screen, planetary defense

Similar in role to the Huntress-class heavy cruiser, the Prometheus-class heavy frigate is one of the older and most common ships in the UESDC. larger and fielding more secondary weaponry than its smaller cousins, the heavy frigate is meant to give frontline assault ships a large amount of support and are also made to be able to keep up and hold their own with vessels like destroyers and heavy cruisers. Fast and nimble, Prometheus-classes form part of the backbone of heavy fleets, and its not an unusual sight to see fleets with a large percentage taken up by heavy frigates. While the ship is significantly more effective than the Masada and Cheyenne classes when it comes to frontline combat, the vessel is still a frigate and as such is small, lightly armored and relatively outclassed in terms of weaponry compared to larger combat ships. Despite this, heavy frigates are known to make the perfect escorts for capital ships, having the right balance between firepower, speed, and survivability. Smaller battlegroups focused around single capital ships are frequently fielded with only heavy frigates for escort, eschewing the other classes of frigate altogether. A newer practice in the UES Navy since the appearance of the Exohumans is to have small quick reaction groups composed of up to 3 capital ships, with several heavy cruisers surrounded by 6-10 heavy frigates, due to the latter 2 types of ships proving themselves very effective against the new threat. Heavy frigates are also renowned to be excellent choices for planetary defense groups, able to intercept any invading forces quickly and dish out a respectable amount of fire equally as quick, allowing heavier ships to come in and finish the job. Prometheus-class frigates have proven themselves vital to UESDC fleet actions over the years they've been in service, and with the outbreak of the war with the Exohumans the ship is now poised to face a whole new challenge: Fight against a technologically equal and brutal enemy for the first time in decades.

    * Unfortunately, the heavy frigates' class leader CDV Prometheus was destroyed during the Exohumans' assault on Earth while protecting the Lunar perimeter. Fighting with battlegroup Mamba and already damaged from hours of continuous combat (multiple hull breaches, damaged reactor, missing both wing structures, half of its weaponry inoperable), the Prometheus held its ground against several Exohuman frigates and cruisers until a massive Exohuman Battleship jumped into the area. Battlegroup Mamba was able to damage the battleship moderately and distracted it long enough for Luna's groundside Tier 4 shock cannon emplacements to utterly obliterate the ship and its escorts. However, the Prometheus and 4 other UES ships were severed in two by the battleship's powerful particle beam cannon in the process, while the remainder of the battlegroup was ordered to evac the moon and retreat. Months later, the UES Navy announced it would be building a CDV Prometheus II in honor of its battle-proven predecessor, complete with the cutting edge of starship tech. Warrant Commander Anthony Sims would take command of this state of the art vessel after its completion in mid 2346.

More UES ships: (Some of these older pages still have the refer to the UES as the UN/UNMC, sorry about that!)

Out of curiosity, I've noticed that most of your ship designs incorporate long pointy bits at various angles; what function do they serve?
